The Oregon Food Bank has opened a new building on the west side of the Portland metro area.
Food Bank CEO Rachel Bristol said at the ribbon-cutting she has mixed feelings about the charity's expansion, but that Oregon's hunger problem is still severe.

Hope is in bloom at the Rachel Carson School of Environmental Science, where students are doing their part to help fight hunger.
With each vegetable and fruit start that pushes through the rich soil in the Oregon Food Bank’s new Westside Learning Garden on the campus, students are demonstrating the importance of learning how to grow healthy food while helping to feed people in need.

Hunger in Oregon's most affluent county is on the rise. According to Oregon Food Bank numbers, the rate of families eating from emergency food boxes is rising at twice the statewide rate. Distribution of emergency food increased 14 percent statewide year to year, and grew 28 percent in Washington County.
