Tell Oregon lawmakers: Support legislation that addresses hunger’s root causes!

Sign the petition

Hunger is not an individual experience. It’s a symptom of unfair systems that create barriers to employment, affordable housing and health care. We envision an Oregon where communities and leaders come together to end hunger for good. But it will take more than providing free, nourishing food to get there. We must also address the root causes of hunger including housing insecurity, systemic racism, sexism and transphobia, lack of affordable healthcare, and more.

Too many families are forced to make impossible choices between housing, healthcare, child care, and putting food on the table. Sign this petition to tell lawmakers to support policies that will address food insecurity at the root!

Housing for All

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. One in four Oregonians rent their homes, and in Oregon, renters are more than six times more likely to experience hunger than homeowners. This is not surprising, as we have the 9th highest rents in the country.

  • Reasonable Rent (SB 611)

  • Rental Assistance (OHCS Budget)

  • Mortgage Interest Deduction Reform (SB 976)

  • Individual Development Accounts

  • Mortgage Availability for ITIN Homebuyers (HB 3492)

Healthy Environment, Healthy People

We need bold, urgent solutions to our climate crisis that support a resilient food system and healthy people. These bills move us toward a healthier environment for healthier communities.

  • Community Resilience Hubs (HB 2990)

  • Building Resilience (SB 868, 869, 870, 871)

  • Toxics Free Environments (HB 3043, SB 426, SB 546)

  • Right to Refuse Dangerous Work (SB 907)

Gender Justice

Sexism perpetuates the unjust systems that leave communities hungry. Gender justice is vital to our community’s self-determination, safety and ability to thrive.

Re-imagining Community Safety

Systemic racism and a legacy of disinvestment drives generational poverty and fuels food insecurity. These policies work to dismantle oppressive systems and promote equity in our state that can ultimately help end hunger.

  • Earned Discharge Consistency (SB 581)

  • Healing Hurt People

Inclusive Democracy & Racial Justice

To achieve a hunger-free Oregon, we must be a place where all members of our communities have equal opportunities to participate in the ways they choose.

  • Indigenous Language Justice (SB 612, 911)

  • Equitable Workgroups (HB 2650)
